The game already has crouch cancelling and floor hugging isn’t a great mechanic for many players, Especially if I hit moves that are expected to be combo starters EG. Zetterburn up/down-tilt I shouldnt be punished for doing so. I dont think it needs to be completely removed, its fine if it remains to avoid dumb jab interactions but it probably shouldn’t be as strong as it is right now

I agree that Floor hugging is way to much. Last thing I wanna do is hit someone with with a good combo starter… then get grabbed because I guess they weren’t in the mood.

@zach OP here, not parrotting that one video, I’ve hated this mechanic since i’ve known about it. even in melee I dont know many people who actually like this. I do think that video is extremely biased and maybe even exaggerated. but I’m happy it brings up the debate. and sadly I’ve not really seen anyone make good arguments for why floor hugging is good for this game and how it makes the game more fun, but I’ve seen plenty of good arguments for why it makes the game less fun so. I dont think it needs to be completely removed, I think theres edge cases like you probably shouldn’t get a full combo from a jab at 0-10% this is fair, but a lot of cases where floor hugging can be used right now make no sense. I’m okay with CC since at least you are committing to crouching. FH requires no such commitment and its more of a reflex test. Its annoying to play against it and with it.

floor hugging is fine because it has to be timed. It’s an intricate defensive mechanic that allows you to do more during the end lag of a tax, just as you were allowed to DI and SDI

It was not right to nerf this before most people even encountered it

We should have let this develop and if it started taking over the top level then you can nerf it

what are you talking about? hard to imagine a change that important wouldn’t be in patch notes. If anything it looks like they buffed it since they nerfed grounded spikes

Floorhugging is lame. It transforms the early to mid% gameplay into a grabfest. Imagine being negative framewise on every hit you land until 80%. I can’t jab, can’t tilt, can’t dash attack, can’t even smash attack until the enemy is already close to dead without getting CCed+floorhugged and grabbed.

Yes, i know there are some moves that break CC, but CC isn’t the problem, floorhugging is. Plus, a lot of those CC breaking moves are super slow and reactable, like Loxo dair.

Floorhugging discourages both defensive and combo starting creativity because the optimal play is to hold down and grab, or hold down and mash if you are a character with a good dtilt. If you got hit then you deserve to be comboed, that’s the opponent’s reward for winning neutral.

CC can stay but don’t make it the default option, people should CC on reaction to specific moves like Elliana’s rockets on roa1. Floorhugging on the other hand, just can it. Idc if we lose amsah techs, it’s a small price to pay for a fun game.

Wanted so badly to like this game but I just can’t have any fun with it like this. Every time I think I’m having fun I get floor hugged at some stupidly high percentage and die. Why even have all these moves when some are designed to always be risky even as a punish? I feel so limited playing “correctly” that it’s more like I’m playing a regression of the genre than an evolution. Been trying to play against bots while I wait for a fix but even they floor hug constantly. Losing hope that they even care with how silent the developers have been about it. My friend refunded his copy and I’m starting to regret not doing the same when I had the chance.

Maybe its just the single most consistent piece of feedback people come here for? Its a bad mechanic that feels bad. A punish should be a punish.

adding Mango’s feedback of the game cause people think its only noob issue;

Once again, the literal GOAT of melee shares the same opinion that floorhug is currently too strong and in his word ‘’why use anything but grab and downair (for zetter) when motherf*s won’t stop F***ing the floor’’ (10:56 for reference)

This is my argument and indeed honestly its getting old pretty fast honestly, I’m not playing ROA2 I’m playing melee 2 and honestly it feels bad and 1 dimensional

This is the exact problem I’ve felt about the game as a whole, it’s less of a Rivals of Aether sequel and more of a Melee sequel. RoA1 was so damn good for how freeflow and creative it felt to move and combo your opponent, but now all that’s gone to appeal to Melee players, who will inevitably just go back to Melee.

I still remain optimistic that the devs can work on this problem and make the game feel more like the sequel it can be, but these issues really need dealing with, especially before they start adding new characters. Imagine Etalus in the game with FH, he’d be legitimately broken, living ‘till 400%+ with ice armor and holding down. Removing FH and adding whifflag would make the game so, so, so much better. I’d be okay with CC being only on projectiles, but even then it’d have to have strict percentages where it stops working.
