EDIT:
SBS has responded to this, and has resolved pretty much every concern here. That being, these “exclusive palettes” will eventually be in the coin shop. I would like to say though, I don’t understand why the marketing team can’t just say timed exclusive? Anyways yea Aether Studios just clarify a bit more in the future pls but otherwise thank you very much :3! I’m keeping this up so you can look through what was originally here and whatnot, but just know every issue I discussed here has been clarified and has become a non issue. Everyone say thank you Aether Studios!
Original post (RESOLVED!):
I have to say I’m a little disappointed. Aether Studios has gone out of their way on numerous occasions to say they wouldn’t do any fomo for this game, which i appreciate. However, barely a week after this game has released, they announced a limited time exclusive palette. Not only that, but the only way to get it is by purchasing a $300 ticket. I understand why the ticket is $300 of course, but this being the only way of getting this palette is quite frankly bullshit. Lying to your customers about not doing fomo is inherently wrong. Aether Studios, do better.
Doesn’t seem like they can trusted to respect their customers. Maybe this kind of false advertising is grounds enough for Valve to grant refunds?
…
An event skin is not FOMO? It’s a cool little trinket for people who happen to go the event, no one in their right mind is gonna decide to go to a fucking 300$ event because they hand out a digital cosmetic.
Listen, I get being alert for predatory business practices but you guys need to actually use critical thinking
How much are they paying you to defend this? Even if you want to argue it “technically doesn’t count” or something, it still completely goes against the expectation one has when they read “we won’t do FOMO”, which is that they will have access to everything no matter when they start playing.

ngl this is a schizopost. ya’ll way too sensitive, they just want to give a cute little treat to ppl.

exclusive in-person content like this makes it impossible to collect all of the cool stuff for your favorite weird little guy

There will be exclusive pallets swaps. The kickstarter backer skins for example will have special pallete swaps only for the specific backer who paid for it.
They only said no FOMO on monthly battle pass events. Personally I like that some items actually feel rare and have rarity, and this doesn’t feel like them going back on their words at all.
It’s not a big deal, even if your a collector.
I feel like it would be less egregious if there was a way to get the palette without the vip ticket, or at least another similar palette. Maybe they could do what they did when they repackaged all the legacy skins from roa1 and give the vip version a special icon or smth and then just release a regular version for everyone else to buy
How is it not a “product up for purchase”? Do you think that including it exclusively as a bundle with other things makes it stop counting as a product? Like what are you even saying?
It’s not a “bundle” you disingenuous so and so, it’s a free recolor for a digital toy character as a token of thanks for buying a 300$ dollar ticket for an in person event.
Do you think when you get free stickers with electronic equipment that’s factored into the price, that it’s a bundle?
No one in their right mind is expecting you to consider it part of the deal, I refuse to believe anyone over the age of 15 could legitemately think this
Beyond all, they were EXTREMELY open that they would have exclusive cosmetics like this one, so if you’re not cool with that or think it’s lame idk, feel free to pout about it, but no one is forcing you to have extremely undeducated takes about it on feedback forums where you misrepresent the truth, obfuscate details, deliberately conflate the issue of FOMO, and just generally look like entlited lunatics who can’t cope with someone else having a toy they can’t get; threatening refunds and speaking as if their trust was broken.
Didn’t it say there’d be other chances to get those palettes and icons?
Also, missing out on an exclusive skin would suck but it’s mostly just a palette
Hey, just wanted to drop in and say that the team’s goal with these skins is to help support community events. That means everything from giving these skins and pallettes to scenes of all sizes to help build up attendees, to even letting them use them to boost the pot bonus or do giveaways to boost viewership.
If there’s one you really really like and can’t get because it’s local only, we also plan to make all of these available in the coin shop in the future some time after the events they are related to are finished.
Also note the LACS one is available to all participants of Coinbox (a free online event) as well.
This is good to hear, but i’ve seen no mention of this outside of this post. If it is true it would be good if there could be a tweet about this or something to spread the word to people who are interested so they can sign up before wedsnesday

thank you aether studios
